Bride and Groom Portraits - St Francis Barracks Wedding
The side streets in St Augustine are ideal spots for stolen moments with a bride and groom. It seems as though each wedding venue has a hidden gem within walking distance. This spot we found down from the ceremony and reception spot at the St Francis Barracks.
The Barracks are positioned along Matanzas Inlet and has a gorgeous backdrop for ceremonies. More than just the beautiful location, St Francis Barracks has a history spanning 300 years. Currently, the barracks are the headquarters for the Florida National Guard.
In this quiet moment with the bride and groom, we were just steps away from the hustle and bustle of the reception space being set. Also, behind me, is the entire wedding party heading back towards the venue and some tourists who stopped to congratulate and wish the couple well. Since this couple opted to not do a first look, these truly are the first few moments with just the two of them in pictures. Right after the ceremony, we started with the family formals in front of the barracks before traveling a bit with the bridal party. I have found that starting with the largest groups and working down to just the bride and groom is ideal.
Formal pictures can feel a bit stressful. By starting with the families, you get those important pictures finished and send the families back into the cocktail hour and a bit of stress is relieved - for the couple's and the families! Usually, I hear family members say "Thank you, that wasn't as bad as we thought it would be. It went back quickly!" Also, buy ending with the couple alone, I can guarantee that they have a few minutes alone on their wedding day. So many times, the bride and groom are in the same space on the wedding day, but not really together.
